I have a new song out, called If I Could. I co-produced this one with my friend Galen Crew, the only friend I have who I can say is 'big in China.'' I'm not kidding. Years ago someone pirated a song of his and uploaded it over there. It had already gone viral, into the millions, before Galen was even aware. Fast forward a few years and he just got back from his 4th tour there. He has amassed something like a billion streams on just one song on Chinese streaming services so far. Pretty cool.
Anyway, I love the work we did on the new song. In a season where I'm stretched to capacity, I'm having to remind myself everyday that I really do believe the words.
No dad is able to buy his kids’ love back with money years later, after he makes it. “All I need is what I have now, and the roof over my head. As long as I can pay the rent and tuck my children into bed.”
I had some music industry executives tell me it was a stupid idea to release music every week. They said it could hurt my brand. Maybe. But I've been so encouraged by the support these last two weeks I'm just going to keep feeling it out.
